Knowsley Energy From Waste Facility

ENERGOS is planning to build a new renewable energy facility at Knowsley Business Park. The proposed facility will use proven and environmentally responsible Norwegian gasification technology to generate green electricity for up to 10,000 homes and heat for local industry from non-recyclable waste.

The planning application for the facility, which would be a centre of international excellence for green waste management, has been submitted to Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council. The plans can be viewed at the council offices and the Non-Technical Summary of the planning application can be downloaded here.

The plant in Knowsley would take two years to build and it would be the second advanced conversion (ACT) plant built in the UK. Information on further developments will be available on the web site soon.

Community relations

ENERGOS has set up a Community Liaison Group (CLG) in order to communicate the development of the facility with the local community.

The first meeting was held on 23 July 2008 in Knowsley. The presentation of Nick Dawber, Managing Director can be downloaded here.

The second CLG meeting was held on the 9th September 2008. The presentation held by ENTEC Environmental and Engineering Consultancy can be downloaded here. The industrial heat map mentioned in the meeting can be accessed here.

An organised visit to the ENERGOS Energy from Waste facility in Stavanger, Norway will take place in October. Date to be confirmed.

Next CLG meeting: 6pm Thursday, 30 October 2008

Location: Suites Hotel, Knowsley
