Air source heat pumps (ASHP) absorb energy from the outside air and can provide heating, hot water and cooling.
An ASHP unit can be internal or external, with the only space requirement being an outside wall making them ideal for buildings with limited outside space. The installation costs of a typical ASHP system are relatively low.
Main types:
- Air-to-water systems use the heat to warm or cool water for heating and/or cooling systems
- Air-to-air systems produce warm or cool air, which is distributed by ductwork systems to heat or cool the building
