Air Conditioning Inspections

Air Conditioning Inspections of systems with a rated output of 250 kW and greater became a legal requirement in England and Wales on 4 January 2009, when the first inspection should have occurred to establish the current energy performance and provide advice and alternative solutions to improve the energy performance of the air conditioning systems.

ENER-G has a highly experienced team of qualified energy assessors, accredited to carry out these inspections of air conditioning systems under the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive.

Compliance with Air Conditioning Inspection legislation offers the opportunity to undertake a compliance and more detailed survey which will help in identifying, measuring and quantifying energy savings of the complete heating ventilation and air conditioning system that will help the company reduce its energy consumption and carbon footprint whilst providing cost savings.

In general the Air Conditioning element of a HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) can typically consume approximately a third of a building’s energy load whilst the total HVAC load could represent up 80%. Significant savings can be gained by thoroughly surveying the Heating and Ventilation energy loads as a complete approach that will include:

  • Examination of the air change rates to the building
  • Over supply/extraction to the building
  • The use of free cooling strategies where relevant
  • Examination of the control system including zoning and time schedules
  • Heat recovery
  • Heating and cooling efficiency
  • Fan and motor drive efficiency
