ENERGOS’ patented technology recovers energy from waste in a two-stage process: Gasification of the solid waste takes place in the first stage (gasification stage), while thermal oxidation of the released syn gases takes place in the second stage (oxidation stage). Measurements performed by an independent research institute at an ENERGOS plant in Norway, demonstrates the following syn gas concentrations in the transfer channel between the gasification stage and the oxidation stage:
Based on this information and discussions with Ofgem (the UK authority for the Renewables Obligation), the ENERGOS technology should qualify as an Advanced Conversion Technology under the Renewables Obligation Order.
Energy recovered from incineration of waste is excluded from the Renewables Obligation Order (2002 No.914). However, energy recovered from waste by use of Advanced Conversion Technology is not excluded from the Order. In the Order, “Advanced Conversion Technologies” means gasification, pyrolysis or anaerobic digestion, or any combination thereof, and “Gasification” means the substoichiometric oxidation or steam reformation of a substance to produce a gaseous mixture containing two or all of the following: oxides of carbon, methane and hydrogen.
